Asakusa where a big iconic "Kaminari-mon" gate welcomes you, is one of the most famous sightseeing spots in Tokyo not only among domestic tourists, but also among all tourists from all over the world. An oldest temple in Tokyo with 1400 years of history that represents Asakusa. Senso-ji temple has many miraculous stories that the temple escaped from fires, and documents left from old times say that it started raining or winds changed direction as flames came closer to closer. It even survived from the great fire after the Great Tokyo Earthquake while Nakamise-dori Street which is spreading in front of its main temple was totally burned down. However, it was destroyed by the Great Tokyo Air Raid during World War â…ˇ after around 300 years since the last reconstruction. The main temple was rebuilt in 1958, and the Kaminari-mon gate was also rebuilt in 1960 by a contribution of "Panasonic" which is one of the leading electronic companies in Japan. The big red lantern is renewed every 10 years since then.

One of the oldest shopping street in Japan which goes straight 250m ahead from Kaminari-mon Gate to Senso-ji Temple. The street is filed with almost 90 souvenir shops and food stands, and if you step out from the main street, you can find even more shops and restaurants that have long histories.
Umaimon Azuma is one of the beloved restaurants in Asakusa with a long history opened since 1952. They serve a wide variety of food with a full of originalities that the tastes have been kept for 70 years, such as Japanized western food, and sushi that the fish is freshly bought in from one of the biggest fish markets in the world. Kaminari-okoshi is crispy rice mixed with sugar and syrup. The name Kaminari-okoshi came from, kaminari as Kaminarimon-gate, and okoshi as rebuilding in Japanese. The first shop was opened around 250 years ago when the gate was burned down, to hope for a reconstruction. Now it also has a charm against thunders.
