The Student Success Profile: Teacher Evaluation Tool is a holistic framework designed to assess various aspects of online teaching that contribute to student success. It evaluates teachers in five key areas and aims to conduct evaluations on a quarterly basis. The five key areas are:
Camera Usage: The teacher encourages students to properly use their cameras and addresses students who are not complying.
Question Response: The teacher formulates open-ended questions and provides students with the opportunity to respond. The teacher uses a system to randomize the calling of students.
Active Learning Presence: The teacher promotes signs of active engagement through digital platforms (e.g., participation in polls, quizzes, interactive activities, formative assessments, note taking, group conversations, socratic seminars, etc.).
Content Interaction: The teacher monitors and encourages time spent on learning platforms, submission of assignments, and interaction with digital resources.
Dedicated Learning Space: The teacher guides students in creating and maintaining a quiet, organized area designated for studying.
Distraction-Free Environment: The teacher assesses and provides recommendations to minimize potential distractions in the student's environment.
Ergonomics and Accessibility: The teacher ensures the suitability of the physical setup for prolonged learning, including instruction on proper seating comfort and access to necessary tools and resources. Furthermore, the teacher addresses issues of ergonomics and accessibility when it doesn't meet the necessary standard for success.
Technology Proficiency & Use: The teacher instructs students on understanding and effective use of required software, platforms, and tools. Also, the teacher ensures that technology is not a barrier to learning efficiency and outcomes.
Digital Citizenship: The teacher educates students on respect for intellectual property rights, privacy, and online safety. The teacher emphasizes the importance of managing and maintaining a positive online reputation.
Digital Etiquette: The teacher models and reinforces adherence to online communication norms and respectful engagement with peers and teachers.
Peer Interaction: The teacher facilitates participation in group work and collaborative projects. The teacher also promotes quality interactions with classmates.
Teacher-Student Relationship: The teacher is approachable and provides a supportive environment for seeking help and feedback. The teacher fosters a positive overall relationship with students.
Stress and Time Management: The teacher helps students manage coursework, track deadlines, and take care of their personal well-being.
Goal Setting and Reflection: The teacher guides students in setting personal academic goals and reflecting on progress and learning experiences.
Adaptability and Problem Solving: The teacher supports students in adapting to challenges and provides appropriate accommodations when needed.
Self-Directed Learning: The teacher encourages initiative in pursuing additional learning opportunities and resources beyond the curriculum, including students who need remedial work and students who wish to pursue additional work outside of class.
During a teacher visitation, the evaluator uses the provided table below. Each area is evaluated on a scale of 1–10. The key provided establishes a correlation between the scores and their respective ratings. Educators should have a goal of scoring 6 or above.
