Participating Teachers
Any Aspire teacher who currently holds a California preliminary multiple subject, single subject, or education specialist credential with a "Renewal Code" authorizing induction.
Teachers are not enrolled in induction until they hold an appropriate credential authorizing induction.
Beginning with the 2019-2020 academic year, enrollment in induction is open until the 15th of January each year.
Teachers who do not hold an appropriate credential at the start of their induction cohort (first school day in October) will be enrolled and start induction as soon as their appropriate credential is granted.
Until eligible for induction, first-year teachers at Aspire are supported and mentored at their local school site.
The Credential Services department determines who holds an appropriate credential for induction. Questions about qualification to participate in Aspire's Teacher Induction Program should be directed to Credentials@AspirePublicSchools.org.
Out-of-State Trained Teachers
Teachers who were trained and received teaching licenses or credentials in other states must first receive a current California teaching credential before beginning work as a teacher at an Aspire school.
Once issued, Credential Services evaluates the new California credential to determine if it holds the appropriate "Renewal Code" authorizing induction.
Many out-of-state trained teachers receive a California preliminary credential that does not authorize induction. These teachers have other requirements for clearing their credential that do not include induction; Aspire's teacher induction program cannot help these teachers clear their credential.
Enrollment
Teachers are automatically enrolled in induction on Aspire's credential information system, Helios, as soon as their credential is identified as authorizing induction.
The Director of New Teacher Development will access the Induction Matching Wizard screen in Helios to view current and incoming cohorts of participating teachers within their region.
Within 30 days of enrollment, the Director of New Teacher Development discuss and work with principals offline to assign mentors, then make their mentor assignments on the Induction Matching Wizard screen in Helios.
The first day of enrollment begins on the Orientation date
Questions about eligibility for induction should be sent to the Credential Services department by e-mail to Credentials@AspirePublicSchools.org.
Although each cohort officially begins the induction program on the first school day in October, beginning with the 2019-2020 academic year, enrollment into the current cohort will remain open until the 15th of January.
Teachers who are hired and/or become eligible for induction after the 15th of January are automatically enrolled in the proceeding induction cohort, to start the following October.
Transferring From Another Induction Program
When a participating teacher joins Aspire having already completed Year 1 of another CTC-approved teacher induction program, the PT should send a copy of their Transportability Document to Credential Services.
Credential Services reviews Transportability Documents and determines if a participating teacher is eligible to enroll in Year 2.
If eligible, Credential Services will update the participating teacher's enrollment to Year 2 and will advise the appropriate Regional Lead Induction Coach.
