Week 2
October 30 - November 4
October 30 - November 4
Keeping in mind what you learned about your personal leadership style in the BigFive quiz, this week is all about exploring career skills.
Step 1: Watch the Harvard Business School Career Services Videos
Step 2: Workbook Entry #4
Workbook Entry #4: Write responses to the following three prompts in your Workbook. A) Given your understanding of yourself, and your reflections from the BigFive personality test, what personal and professional skills will be most important for you to develop? B) Why are these the most important? C) What are the top two or three actions you will take to build your personal and professional goals?
Step 3: Develop your Resume and LinkedIn Profiles
Part 1: Develop your resume drawing on advice from the videos above.
Part 2: Look at LinkedIn pages for people in fields of interest to you. Drawing on those and your resume, develop your own LinkedIn page.
Part 3: Text/chat with at least two others in your Pod about your LinkedIn pages.
Step 4: Discussion Post #3
Discussion Post #3: Post your LinkedIn link to your Pod. Comment thoughtfully (1-3 sentences) with constructive suggestions on the LinkedIn pages of two people in your Pod with whom you did not text or chat during Step 3.
Step 5: Workbook Entry #5
Workbook Entry #5: Drawing on the introduction to yourself drafted in Workbook Entry #1 (Getting to Know Your Peers), your other Workbook entries, and the career videos, practice and revise a 3 minute (~600 word) introduction to yourself.
Step 6: Prepare for the Week 3 Roundtable Discussion
All students should begin revising and practicing the introduction they drafted in Workbook Entry #5. This 3-minute introduction to yourself will be presented to your Pod during a synchronous roundtable discussion in Week 3.
If you are the Pod host, please start scheduling a time for your Pod to meet during Week 3. You should schedule 2 hours for the meeting. Make sure to be clear about the time, as Aspire program participants come from timezones all around the world! If your Pod chooses to use Google Meet, you can also use Google Calendar to schedule the meeting, which will help clarify the time automatically - see the Technology tab for more information.
At the Week 3 roundtable, you and your peers will choose a facilitator to manage time for the group. The facilitator will go first for each step in the order below, and they will then select people for subsequent turns.
Step A) Each of you will take a turn to introduce yourself in a 3-minute presentation.
Step B) You will take notes on each peer's presentation, so that you can provide thoughtful feedback.
Step C) After each person's presentation, the facilitator will invite 1-2 minutes of questions, suggestions, or appreciation.
Step D) After everyone's introductions, each of you will take a turn to present your resumes. Resumes will be shared with others via the chat.
