Students in Division I will use the Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Set in the tournament. It is a beginner-friendly coding and robotics kit designed for young learners (typically K-3). It includes a programmable robot mouse, a set of maze grids, walls, tunnels, and activity cards. Students can program the mouse using simple directional buttons (forward, backward, left, right) to navigate through mazes and reach a target (usually a piece of "cheese").
If you're not familiar with how this robot works, please watch the following videos below to get started.
Below is more detailed information about the Code & Go Robot Mouse Activity Set. This activity guide should primarily be reviewed by the team coach to help students learn how the robot mouse works. If you feel it's necessary, you can review more information on coding tips, basic operation, assembling the grid, using maze walls, coding cards and activity cards in this document.
To prepare students in Division I for the tournament, students should be able to work through the following activity cards as a team of 2. Start out with card 1 to teach the very basics, and follow in number sequence as logic and critical thinking skills improve.
For all the mazes on the activity cards, the goal is to program your robot mouse to reach the cheese. Each of these mazes should be completed in the fewest steps possible. For mazes with tunnels, be sure to have the mouse pass under each tunnel before reaching the cheese.
