TIDES II
2023-2023 School Year: Academic
The TIDES II program with Ocean First (March - May), alternates yearly between academic and experiential (based on enrollment and funding).
Academic: Students complete four SSI ecology courses (Marine Ecology, Sea Turtle Ecology, Fish ID, and Marine Mammals Ecology) and participate in engineering a real-world problem/solution STEM activity focused on Ocean Plastics.
Experiential: Students complete four SSI dive certifications. These continuing education courses will aid students in their marine science pursuits in addition to helping them work toward earning their Advanced Open Water Diver Certification. This includes an overnight trip to the Bahamas (Laser Photogrammetry) or Grand Cayman (Coral Restoration).
This immersive marine science program for 6-8th graders will continue students' rigorous interdisciplinary science curriculum, hands-on learning, and team-building. TIDES II increases student awareness of the ocean and motivate them to become stewards in protecting the Earth’s largest source of life.
