For clients living in Colorado
The Chronic Pain & Illness Therapy Group will help you rewire the neural networks that can cause chronic pain and other symptoms.
This group is appropriate for individuals who have neuroplastic symptoms, which include conditions like fibromyalgia, migraine, headache, long COVID, IBS, POTS, chronic pain syndromes, back and neck pain, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), and others. If you're interested, we will contact you to conduct a free assessment to see if your chronic symptoms are neuroplastic and appropriate for this type of therapy. Have you ever had your car's check engine light turn on even when your engine is fine? This can happen in our brain and nervous system, too. Chronic pain or illness, our brain's version of the "check engine light," sometimes persists even after tissues have healed, nerves have repaired, or the traumatic event has passed. Our brain still thinks our body is in danger.
Both PRT and EAET help reset the nervous system so that our brain and body can turn off the danger signals and tune into a renewed sense of safety. PRT focuses on disrupting the pain cycle by reducing emotional distress around pain and EAET focuses on releasing past stress and expressing avoided emotions that may perpetuate the pain cycle.
Your Facilitator - Melanie Strauss Yee, LPCC
After a series of head injuries, I experienced pain and fatigue so severe I was forced to leave my career in foreign aid. With the help of Pain Reprocessing Therapy and Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy, I experienced significant symptom reduction and returned to work, this time as a mental health counselor. As a counselor at Clinica Family Health and Wellness, I used these techniques with clients and developed a curriculum to facilitate healing. If you are struggling with neuroplastic symptoms, I would love to share these healing approaches with you!
Your Facilitator - Kelly Shea, LCSW
Supporting folks with chronic illness and chronic pain is an emerging area of specialization for me in my practice. Pain Reprocessing Therapy has been helpful for many clients that I work with, as well as in my own journey with chronic illness and pain. I’m thrilled to be sharing and collaborating on this new group opportunity with Melanie! I’m looking forward to creating more community around the experience of living with and managing pain and other chronic symptoms and thinking about it all through a new and different lens. If this sounds familiar or motivating to you, we hope you will join us!
