Scott Martin is a consultant and advisor on intellectual property, artificial intelligence, and related challenges.
Scott served as Executive Vice President of Intellectual Property & Deputy General Counsel at Paramount Pictures for 33 years from 1992-2025, where he was responsible for intellectual property and artificial intelligence policy, rights acquisitions, copyrights and trademarks, production clearances, chain-of-title & rights issues, content protection strategy, film preservation, market access challenges, artificial intelligence aspects of labor relations, live stage & themed entertainment projects, and WIPO negotiations.
At Paramount he was involved with a wide range of films, including Forrest Gump, the Mission: Impossible films, Top Gun Maverick, The Truman Show, Titanic, Saving Private Ryan, Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds, and the Jackass, A Quiet Place, and Smile theatrical franchises.
Prior to joining Paramount Scott was in private practice in New York, specializing in stage, music, and direct-to-video transactions and litigation.
Scott served with the U.S. State Department as a copyright law consultant in Estonia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Latvia and Lithuania.
He taught as an Associate in Law at Columbia Law School, an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law, and a guest lecturer at the University of Southern California Thorton School of Music. He was a Trustee of Skidmore College for over 25 years.
Scott holds undergraduate degrees from Skidmore College and the Université de Paris (L’Institut d’Études Politiques), an M.A. and J.D. from American University, and an LL.M. from Columbia University. He also studied international law at Kings College, London.
He is a member the Copyright Society and ALAI-USA, and member of the Board of Directors of the National Film Preservation Foundation and the Board of Advisors of the Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts at Columbia University. He previously served on the board of Aspen Words at the Aspen Institute.
Scott is a registered WIPO mediator/arbitrator (a WIPO Neutral) with the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center.
