In the midst of a year like no other, while we spent time quarantined at home, the Advanced Darkroom Photography group came together each week to explore photography – how it shapes our view of the world and how we can learn new ways of seeing the environment around us through our cameras.
Different genres of photography and stylistic approaches were examined by looking at the work of photographers such as William Eggleston, Cig Harvey, Joel Meyerowitz, and Priya Kambli. In an effort to document their lives at home and convey their inner states, they also stepped in front of the camera to create self-portraits.
For their final projects, each teen created photographs inspired by their own lives and interests. They have explored new technical skills and ways to present their photographs in a series, ultimately becoming more intentional in their creative decisions when making photographs.
