For their final project, teens responded to a simple prompt:

Where are you right now?

There are endless answers, no matter where in Chicago you happen to be. Each answer is a distinct place with a distinct identity, that all happen to exist within the same space. Really, that's all a place is: a meaning adhered to a space. Wherever you are, you are in a multitude of places simultaneously.

8 Places You Are Right Now is an installation project by one of our guest artists this session, Larsen Husby. Larsen introduced the teens to his interest in maps, which led to this project, as a way of describing the many layers of how we can attribute meaning to our location. Inspired by his project, teens were encouraged to explore the layers of their geographical location, but also to describe personal meaning connected to their physical location. Each of their "8 Places" then became a prompt for creating photographs.
