Facilitated Discussion Process
As described in the Timelines section, once the PCRP Coordinator has confirmed with the complainant and interpreter(s) their preferred option of hearing interpreter / Deaf interpreter team combination, the coordinator will confirm the facilitators to work with the parties.
The facilitators will reach out to the parties involved to arrange meeting time(s) and location(s) (e.g., online or in person). The parties involved with the concern are invited to include a maximum of two support persons to attend the meeting(s), if they wish. While we recognize the concerns discussed may include heightened emotions, the goal of this process is to create a non- confrontational, inquiry-based, collaborative space for the parties to share their concerns and perspectives. The objective is to support constructive, culturally sensitive dialogue and restore professional relationships.
The parties will determine how many meetings are required to reach a negotiated outcome. For some parties this may require only one meeting, while others will require several meetings to build trust and allow the parties to reach a resolution. All parties will sign a confidentiality agreement held by the facilitator team until a resolution is reached. Upon completion, the forms will be held by the ASLIA PCRP Coordinator.
Once the facilitators feel they have sufficient information they may (or may not) suggest or negotiate possible outcomes or actions to be taken. The goal is that the parties agree that these actions serve to make amends and will lead to learning and growth.
