Getting Started With Wonder
How to Claim A Job
In order to claim a job:
- Log-in to the Researcher Dashboard (link here).
- Click the light green “Go Online” button.
- Select the jobs you’d like to do (writing, sourcing, etc)
- Click “I’m Ready”
- Wait for a job to be assigned to you.
- Once you’ve been assigned a job, you’ll have 30 seconds to click “Accept”.
Upcoming Jobs Indicator
This column, found on the left-hand side of the Research Dashboard, indicates the number of jobs that are available in the next two hours. The total number on the right is a combination of available jobs and jobs that are being finished in the previous stage of the research process (in this case, sourcing).
The Assigner & How It Works
The Assigner is an algorithm that’s designed to move requests through each stage of the “Knowledge Assembly Line” by assigning jobs to analysts as they move through the queue. The queue is the list of analysts waiting for jobs, organized by the time they clicked “Go Online”. Requests are assigned out on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
It should be noted that in certain events (such as a request nearing it’s deadline without being finished) requests may be assigned to certain analysts by an admin.
I clicked “Go Online” and have been waiting for 30 minutes without being assigned anything. What’s going on!?
If you’ve been waiting for more than a few minutes without being assigned something, there are most likely more analysts in the queue than there are jobs. To see the number of upcoming jobs, refer to the blue bar on the left side of the Research Dashboard. If the number is high but you’re not being assigned anything, it’s probably a good idea to wait an hour and log back in. That means jobs are being finalized in the stage before you!
Alternatively, the other issue could be your quality score. If it drops below a 4.4, you will not be able to pick up jobs until you contact an admin.
Quality Scores
When do I get a Quality Score and what is it?
Analysts are assigned Quality Scores in either Writing or Sourcing after they have completed 15 jobs. This score is an average of their previous job performance and indicates the analysts level of success on the platform.
Does a Quality Score take all my jobs into account?
Quality Scores (QS) take into account the last 50 jobs you’ve done and reflect that average as your score. So, if you’ve completed 51 jobs, your score only shows jobs 2-51. This gives you the ability to improve your score more easily as you complete more jobs.
What Do Quality Scores Help With?
Thresholds
To ensure that analysts' quality of work are aligned with the Wonder standards, only those that have a QS of 4.4 and above will be assigned requests.
Leveling Up
Within the Wonder Community there are a number of jobs that analysts can "level up" to grow as researchers and earn even more! Check below to see the necessary steps associated with each job.
- Sourcing: Once your Writing score is 4.5+, apply here
- Writing: Once your Sourcing score is 4.5+, apply here
- Researching: Automatically unlocks once your scores for both Sourcing and Writing are above 4.5
- Editing: Automatically unlocks once your scores for both Sourcing and Writing are above 4.8
- Vetting: Application, once you've completed 30 requests
- Interpreting: Once your Quality Score is 4.8 for both Writing and Sourcing, review this handbook and complete this practice exam.
- Reviewing: Application, once you've completed 30 A-Z requests and score is above 4.8.
The Squatterbot
When working on a request, you have a grand total of 4 hours to complete your job. But we understand that life can happen and drag us away from our computers. So, we’ve created the "Squatterbot" to ensure that, if you have to stop working in the middle of the job, the request can be sent to another analyst automatically.
When working on a project, the "Squatterbot" will tell you how much of the 4 hour time limit you have left to work on your request. If 1 hour elapses without any activity on the request, the "Squatterbot" will close the page and send the request to another analyst for completion.
How Payments Work
When are paydays?
Paydays occur bi-monthly on every-other Friday. If it is the Thursday of a pay week, the cut off for completing jobs is 11:00 p.m. ET.
You will see any earnings for jobs completed after this time the next day, once pay is distributed. If it is not a Thursday of a pay week, you will need to report it in #04-Bugs.
What will I be paid?
You are paid the total sum of all request related earnings and bonuses you’ve accrued during that two week period.
How am I paid?
All payments are sent via PayPal.
I earned a bonus but don't see it in my Earnings Dashboard. Why is that?
Please note that certain bonuses do not relate directly to a piece of research and are therefore entered manually by Wonder HQ team members. These bonuses may not appear in your Earnings Dashboard, but will be included in your bi-weekly payout.
Taxes
Wonder does not issue any Form 1099-MISCs to researchers. Instead, any IRS reporting will generally be done by PayPal, the company that pays you directly. Please log on to your PayPal account to review your information. You can review more information about the new reporting rules at http://PayPal.com/IRS
Additionally, Wonder is not able to provide you with any tax advice. We recommend that you consult your own tax advisor about your personal situation. The information provided in this message is not tax advice; instead, it is just intended to help you locate tax information from other sources.
