I am Nagayoshi Ohashi, a scientist studying astronomy and astrophysics. I mainly use radio telescopes to observe radio signal from the universe. I learned how to use radio telescopes at Nagoya University, Japan and also at Nobeyama Radio Observatory (NRO), Japan with mm - interferometer called Nobeyama Millimiter Array as shown in the left picture.
I have been working at Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and astrophysics (ASIAA), Taiwan since 1997. I have also stayed in Hilo, Hawaii, for the Submillimeter Array (SMA) Project and the Subaru Telescope, and also in Santiago, Chile for the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter (ALMA) Project.
I am studying star and planet formation to investigate how stars like Sun and planets like Earth form. Stars and plants are considered to be formed in dense molecular gas gravitationally collapsing. Dense molecular gas also contain dust grains, which are considered to coagulate to form rocky planets. There are a couple of fundamental processes during star and planet formation, such as gas infall, forming disks, and launching outflows/jets. I am observationally investigating those fundamental processes of star and planet formation and derive key physical parameters, such as mass infall rate, specific angular momentum, and dynamical mass of protostar.
I have been also working on instrumentation in collaboration with engineers and technicians. I participated the construction and commissioning of the SMA; in particular I have worked on two 6-meter antennas, which were delivered from Taiwan and have been used as a part of the SMA, and also I have led the commissioning and science verification of the SMA in Hawaii. After the SMA project, I participated the construction of the ALMA; in particular I have led the East Asia Front-End Integration Center (EA FEIC) in Taiwan and delivered 26 Front-End assemblies to the ALMA.
I have been publishing 119 papers in refereed journals, with h-index of 45 (based on ADS). Detailed statistics of my publications can be found here. I have been trying to publish epoch-making and pioneering works.
