Dear Ashwaubenon School District Families,
The last four months have brought many unexpected challenges to our District families and staff. We’ve all experienced different hardships, but I have also never felt a more profound sense of community and togetherness. Thank you for all of your support of the Ashwaubenon School District, our students, and our staff.
Our school closures in March were unprecedented, and our administrative team, staff, and families persevered through the difficulty of moving instruction to a home learning environment. Since closing our schools for the summer this past June, our Ashwaubenon School District administrative team and staff have been working and planning for our Fall return to school. We are committed to making decisions with the best interest of both student and staff safety, as well as student learning, in mind.
We want you to understand that this re-entry plan has been a community response to COVID-19 that has involved numerous stakeholders. Below I have listed some of the actions that have taken place in order to create this plan.
Brown County Safe Reopening of Schools
On Monday, June 15th, all Brown County Superintendents came together with area medical experts (Prevea, Bellin, Aurora, and HSHS), Brown County Department of Health Services, and business leaders to start the “Brown County Safe Reopening of Schools” task force. This group has met weekly ever since and continues to meet. This has truly been a collaborative effort of the entire Green Bay area communities. Medical experts have provided weekly guidance to area school districts on the development of our plans.
Ashwaubenon School District Four Task Force Committees
On Wednesday, June 17th, we established our four ‘task force committees’ that involved over 50 district staff that included administrators, teachers, pupil service staff, and support staff. The four task force committees are:
Teaching and Learning
Safety
Relationship / Mental Health
Policy / Communication
These committees have been doing quality work in developing different components of our plan, using feedback from our previous parent surveys, information from the Brown County Health Department, local medical providers, and area school districts to help guide our work. In addition, these committees continue to meet as we plan for not only the scenarios that are shared in our plan, but for a possible total virtual learning environment in the future.
Ashwaubenon School District Fall 2020 Return to School Plan
Today, we are sharing the first edition of our Fall 2020 Return to School Plan. This document will be updated continuously as we navigate the return to school. Many factors are out of our control and will remain that way for the 2020-21 school year. We will continue to work with State, County, and local agencies to adapt our plans to the changing COVID-19 pandemic.
Re-opening Ashwaubenon Schools Plan
Thank you for your support, patience, and understanding during these unprecedented times. We must work together for the well-being of our students and community. I look forward to seeing our students and staff in our buildings this fall. Have a great remainder of your summer.
Sincerely,
Kurt Weyers, Ed.S.
Superintendent of Schools
