Research

My dissertation research, supervised by Dr. J. Mark Kenoyer, focused on craft technologies and social and economic organization, and examined evidence for processes of increasing specialization in craft production over time in Southern India, during the Iron Age and Early Historic periods.

I’m in the process of embarking on a new project which focuses on the history and archaeology of the Nilgiri Hills region of South India, and in particular on evidence of economic interactions, political integration, and the impacts of successive empires, both autochthonous and European, on the communities of that region. The maps used in the headers here are all of the Nilgiris and form the basis of a detailed GIS database for the Nilgiris including contemporary and historical land use, and archaeological sites.
