Research shows giving students their targets can give them a ceiling - we want all our students to achieve at the very highest level that they can. In our new system students will no longer be given a target range for each subject. Instead we will be reporting each term on the actual progress they have made in each subject against the knowledge and skills they have been taught.
What are the 5 levels of progress?
5 levels of progress have been defined for every unit of work for every subject across KS3. This is based on the level of knowledge and skills your child has achieved. Each student will be given their level using professional judgement by their teachers which will include class work, responses in class and assessments as appropriate for that subject/unit of work.
How will my child's progress be reported?
Reports will be sent home each term and one of the five levels will be given for your child for each subject. They will also continue to be given a score from 1 (outstanding) to 4 (poor) for their attitude to classwork and home learning.
How can I see further information on what the levels actually mean in each subject?
Through this website you can find the descriptors for every unit of work studied by your child in KS3. Simply click on the subject you want to see from the home page and find the relevant year and term. Click on the relevant document and it will give you the specific level of knowledge and skills. By using these with your children in class and providing you with this information we hope to inform you of the specific detail behind the level being reported to you and also to clearly show you what they need to do to improve further.
What if my child's progress changes throughout the year?
The reports will be sent to you 3 times per year. You may find that the level achieved by your child drops or increases between data drops. We expect to see this and see it as positive thing to identify areas where your child is excelling alongside those units where they require further support.
