For each unit, students will have at least one long form writing assignment. They will create argumentative texts, explanatory/informatory texts, and narratives.
All long form writing assignments will go through the writing process in class and students will have resources such as rubrics, graphic organizers, and editing checklists.
Each day, students will complete a DOL (Daily Oral Language) warm-up. There may also be grammar quizzes based on the content/skills reviewed in the DOLs.
Each, students will be responsible for reading for 15-20 minutes at home and filling in their reading log. On Fridays, the first 10 minutes of class will be used for Silent Sustained Reading (SSR) and then students will fill in the last section of their reading log before turning it in. Reading logs are due every week and are a homework grade.
To help hold students accountable for finishing their books, each month students will complete an at home project on their book. The projects will be different each month and focus on a different concept or skill (ex: theme or characterization). These projects are assessment grades.
