Get on Board!
Overview
For over 30 years, the National Board's mission has been to "advance the quality of teaching and learning through advanced certification." Now there are more than 118,000 board-certified teachers across all 50 states. The National Board for Professional Teacher Standards (NBPTS) is building a career continuum, starting with pre-service teacher preparation, leading to teachers who aspire to achieve Board certification.
Candidates for certification analyze their teaching and its impact on student learning, take on leadership roles, and collaborate with peers and community. This hard work pays off as NC National Board Certified teachers are eligible for a 12 percent pay differential. Click here to see the NBC pay guidelines for North Carolina teachers.
The Process
The National Board of Professional Teaching Standards is designed to collect standards-based evidence of accomplished teaching across four components:
Component 1: Content Knowledge
Component 2: Differentiation in Instruction
Component 3: Teaching Practice and Classroom Environment
Component 4: Effective and Reflective Practitioner
Candidates can work on any component in any order or all at one time. Each component costs $475.
