The StartUp Hub is a non-traditional learning space where students are challenged to learn outside their comfort zone. The space is designed for team activities, guest speakers, panel discussions, and business development. The objective, either through classroom work, project-based learning, and/or exposure to subject-matter experts, is to model the spirit of philanthropy and create opportunities for students to put that spirit into practice.
Provide opportunities for students to work outside their comfort zone
Strengthen positive relationships
Guide and advocate through conflict
Manage emotions in various situations
Develop strategies to overcome limitations
Model, consider, and establish a socially responsive environment
Practice global leadership
February 2019
While attending the Live Curious, Go Beyond Conference 2019, our Keynote Speaker, Ken Shelton, explained the most important skills students need in order to be ready for the future; the #1 skill was the ability to Negotiate effectively. In response, I coordinated with Attorney Gregory Marsden, Dean of Facultad Libre de Derecho, to present a four-part workshop to our students on the process of negotiations. This interactive, engaging event served to develop our students' ability to Manage Conflict as they grow into Global Leaders.
2016 - Present
I started teaching Entrepreneurship in 2016 and from that, the idea of the StartUp Hub was created. The students in entrepreneurship learn how to manage themselves and their contributions to a team through setting weekly goals and by assessing those goals at the end of the week. In addition, the young entrepreneurs plan, set and manage their own deadlines. These learning strategies not only teach important skills that are transferable to all other areas of their lives, but they also allow students to reflect on their strengths and develop strategies for growth.
