About Me
Joelle Hernandez is a committed educator with an enthusiasm for teaching that stems from seeing her learners leverage classroom instruction to change their lives and the world for the better. Before joining the teaching profession, Joelle worked as a financial underwriter and marketer in the financial and technology sectors. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina Charlotte and later, in preparation to pursue her passion for teaching, her Masters in Education from Temple University.
Since 2016, Joelle has worked at the American School Foundation of Monterrey (ASFM), where she teaches AP Economics, AP Seminar, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, and Marketing. She also focuses on cultivating a world-class work environment for educators as Department Head for ASFM's Business/Technology department.
After earning a Certificate of International School Leadership from the Principals' Training Center in July 2021, Joelle's career took a significant turn. In August 2022, she was called upon by the ASFM Administration to lead a team of Grade 11 teachers as Head of Grade 11. This role marked her evolution from teacher to administrator, a transition that was further solidified in 2023 when she took on the dual roles of Accreditation Coordinator and AP Coordinator. As an Accreditation Coordinator, Joelle is spearheading accreditation changes to align with ASFM’s strategic objectives. As AP Coordinator, she is designing a data system to analyze and project outcomes for the Advanced Placement programs by identifying key improvement factors.
Her achievements in these roles include achieving NEASC accreditation for ASFM, reversing the pandemic’s negative impact on AP enrollment and scores, and fostering a positive and supportive learning environment, which increased attendance rates from 52% to 92%. These accomplishments underscore Joelle's commitment to strategic leadership, community building, and data-based decision making.
Joelle is a champion of innovation and diversity, always seeking to uplift people and provide top-notch student support. Outside of her professional life, Joelle is an avid traveler, skier, and outdoor enthusiast. She continues to serve as the Executive Director of Liga de Enseñanza Judicial de México, a non-profit organization she established upon arriving in Monterrey, dedicated to strengthening the rule of law via secondary education. Prior to moving to Monterrey with her family, Joelle taught technology and business in Pennsylvania as well as in Colombia, where she led her Robotics team to a national championship.
Joelle's recent experiences and achievements reflect her evolution as an educational leader, ready to take on new challenges and opportunities.
