Anybody who becomes a teacher should be in for a challenge. 20+ students, 5-6 subjects, 8+ hours of teaching, 1000+ teaching points to cover in a year AND many different goals to purse: academic, emotional, social or other tidbits that need to be addressed.... phew!
It sounds overwhelming! BUT IT IS WONDERFUL!
I am a Learning Specialist Kinder Teacher, and my challenge to conquer is to teach proactively and close gaps that any student may have acquired.
If you think that working with young children is easy, you're mistaken. As with any other profession, it requires dedication, strategy deliberations, colleagues’ consultation and complicated decision making. For example, teaching ending sounds could seem very ordinary and simple, but it implies: listening to sounds, discriminating between the sounds, sequencing of the sounds, working memory, long term memory, speech articulation, proper enunciation and rapid processing speed to answer within the time limit the teacher has before anyone else yells out the answer! But once the child can tell you effortlessly what the ending sound is ( ...or can read/write, etc.) your heart seems to jump a beat.
It is exhilarating!
So, my challenge to conquer is to continue teaching proactively to avoid gaps from happening.
