No, there are no openings for Spring 2023.
Are there any prerequisites for the group?
No, the student will learn as they work on the projects. Be ready to spend time reading papers.
What is the most important thing the student should remember?
Follow Lab safety and cleaning protocols
What is the time commitment required by the student per week?
Lab work: Min 8 hrs (Fall and Spring term)
Min 12 hrs (Summer term)
Literature Survey (@home): Min 2 hrs (Fall and Spring term)
Min 4 hrs (Summer term)
Meetings (online): Min 2 hrs (Fall and Spring term)
Min 4 hrs (Summer term)
What can the student expect to get from the group?
Hands-on experience with different characterization tools like the Scanning electron microscope, FTIR, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and Electrochemical analysis using a potentiostat.
Hands-on experience with different synthesizing techniques of Nanoparticles.
Learn to not only go deep and work for a solution to a problem but also to have a broader picture to define a problem statement.
Interact with the team while making sure to own up to their individual contribution.
Emphasize sustainability and green techniques
Most important - Learn from failed experiments :)
Will the students publish their work?
I definitely encourage students for publication because they do learn a lot during the publication process but whether every work ends up in a publication or not solely depends on the effort put in by the team.
Is there a certain period the students need to spend in the group?
Based on my observation, a student can feel a sense of achievement about a topic if the student can spend at least 2 - 3 terms in a group with commitment.
