WHAT MAKES MONTESSORI EDUCATION DIFFERENT?
In a general education classroom
Students are typically sitting in desks with chairs following a teacher's direct instruction using a district provided curriculum with one grade level. The teacher facilitates most of the learning and controls the pace.
In a Montessori classroom
Students determine their pace and teachers are facilitators and guides of learning. There is more freedom of movement and choice in the works to be completed. Students take ownership of their learning and the classroom space working in groups and independently throughout the owrk session.
