Welcome to a new year and a new season of boys basketball. Practice begins on 8/24 and will be every school day 4:15-5:45pm Dress out in the locker room and be in the gym ready to go at 4:15pm sharp!
Morning practices: Due to the number of players that may be participating in basketball we may have morning practices as an option. Your player will be either morning or afternoon NOT both. If a player misses morning practice they do not come to afternoon practice. Morning practice times will be 7:45-9:15am. School begins at 9:30 am. MONDAY PLC Start days are different and practice will be 7:45-9:00am and then students will be supervised by security in the MPR as the coaches will be in PLC meeting.
Practice and game attire: Players wear shorts, t-shirt, and athletic shoes for practices. No jeans, sweatshirts, hats, etc. will be allowed. For games players will purchase a Game t-shirt (uniform) from Mears (parent connect) for $15 that they will keep. Preferably black shorts for games as well. Last years shirt may be used this year also.
Tryouts: During the first few days of practice we will hold tryouts to determine which level your son will play at during the season. Those levels include a Varsity, JV, and possibly C teams. There will only be afternoon practices (4:15-5:45pm) until we determine who will be on what team. No player is cut in middle school. We do our best to help every player succeed at the correct level.
Varsity and JV play: Players will rotate every 4 minutes during the first half (16 minute half) Players will be free substitution in the second half like a normal basketball game. Playing time may not be equal for these divisions as there is no guaranteed playing time in the second half.
C Team play: C team players will rotate every 4 minutes throughout the entire game. Substitutions can only be made if a player fouls out or is injured during the game. Each player is guaranteed to play at least once in the first and second half.
Pick up after practice: Afternoon practice is 4:15-5:45pm. Players must get picked up by 5:45pm or make alternate arrangements to get picked up. Please plan ahead for rides or ride shares with other families. A coach is required to stay until all players have been picked up.
Absences: Attendance will be taken every day at practice. If a player is absent for any reason an email must be sent to the coach excusing the absence.
