Message from your Principal:
Dear Hanshew Families,
Although we've come to the end of the road for the 25-26 school year, we are determined to finish strong this May! Please encourage your student to remain engaged in school and continue the academic and behavioral excellence that they have shown all school year.
Please continue to check your student's academic progress in canvas and Q. 4th quarter grades will be viewable in ParentConnect after May 22nd! Afterschool tutoring is still being held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the library from 4:15-5:15pm. The writing lab is still open on Wednesdays and Fridays in the library from 4:15-5:15pm.
On May 12, 2026 at 2:00pm, the ASD school business partnership and Horace Mann organizations will celebrate the attendance of our students by announcing the 2 winners who were entered into the drawing to win a bicycle. Students who have 90% attendance or better each month or increase their attendance by 10% will be eligible to win, but there are only 2 bicycles that will be given away. We are so proud of our students for showing up to school.
May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander month, Jewish American Heritage Month, and Mental Health Awareness Month. We will be celebrating the many accomplishments of the AANHPI and Jewish communities. Happy Mother's Day to all of the mom's in the Hanshew community. Thank you for being a great role model, parent , and grandparent to your student and others. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to be a guest speaker or have anything to contribute to any of these celebrations.
School is in session on Thursday, May 21st! Please send your student to school as this is the last makeup day for one of the school closures. The 8th graders have opted to change their end of the year celebration from Goose Lake to the Hanshew field and track area on May 15th. More information will be forthcoming along with permission slips for this celebration. Parent volunteers are always welcome! Please ensure that you have submitted your volunteer application and have been approved. Please check the Hanshew website and calendar for all end of the year and upcoming events and activities. We have several end of the year musical concerts to enjoy!
As always, thank you for your support, patience, and understanding this school year! Thank you for also entrusting us with the education and care of your students, we appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lakhita Hodge
Hanshew Middle School Principal
AP UPDATES-
Beginning Monday, May 18th students may only bring the following items to school: Chromebook, lunch, water bottle (empty) and any personal items needed. All items are subject to search upon entering the building and unnecessary items will be confiscated and kept until the end of the day. Students will not have access to their lockers after Friday, May 15th. Hanshew does this to ensure all students are safe and to finish out the year without incident.
Dress Code - as the weather warms we see an increase in dress code violations, please review the dress code with your student
Bus Conduct - riding the bus is a priviledge and students can lose that right if they violate school bus rules. It is for the safety of all students and the driver for students to follow bus expectations.
We have a lot of fun activities planned to end this year, all of which are a priviledge for the students to attend. If behavior becomes an issue students may not be allowed to attend these activities.
