Current Business Partners
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska has been working with Hanshew since April 2015. When Hanshew began their partnership with BBBS, Hanshew agreed to have a clothing donation bin outside of the school. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska gives Hanshew 10 cents per pound of clothing that is donated at the donation bin. Hanshew has used the money to buy food for families in need of a meal for the holidays. Families can drop bags of clothing off to donate at the red clothing bin in front of Hanshew. To try to give back, Hanshew has hung a student created Big Brothers Big Sisters sign in the school’s foyer. Hanshew students also send holiday cards and thank you notes.
Anchorage Fire Department Station 12 has supported Hanshew in a variety of ways. They make classroom presentations on special topics on a pre-arranged basis (fire safety etc.), participate in school events when invited, participate in mock job interview events, fill dunk tanks on pre-arranged basis. Station 12 has even brought their fire trucks to school during October Fire Prevention month and answer questions about the equipment and being a firefighter.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Gamma Alpha Alpha Chapter, is a men's fraternity that has been partnered with Hanshew since May 2015. Their boys mentoring program began at the end of October 2015. The Chairman of Youth Leadership for the fraternity, came to Hanshew in September 2015 and January 2016 and spoke to students for one hour about the apprenticeship program in Alaska, as well as employability skills students can develop to be successful in the work place. To support Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Hanshew students created an Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. sign and had it hung in the foyer of the school. Hanshew students have also invited Omega Psi Phi Fraternity members to music concerts and sent out Hanshew holiday thank you notes and cards.
The partnership between Hanshew and the IBEW has benefitted Hanshew's students in two important ways. First, it has helped provide some of the most economically disadvantaged students at Hanshew with materials and moral support to be successful as students. Second, the IBEW 1547 has provided information on career options outside of the traditional college track. The IBEW 1547 has provided successful role models in the school for students to interact with as they begin to explore their own future careers.

Carl’s Jr. has been one of Hanshew’s business partners since 2014. Carl’s Jr. has come into Hanshew and talked about employability skills, and how to do job interviews. Carl’s Jr. also helped Hanshew create the “Start a Conversation” program for students and their parents. To try to give back, Hanshew has hung a Carl’s Jr. banner in the school’s foyer and Carl’s Jr. has a Hanshew’s Hawk symbol in their store on Abbott.

Texas Roadhouse offers field trip to the place of business on a pre-arranged basis, makes classroom presentations on special topics about their business, and participates in school events when invited. They also assist with back to school events in August and end of the school year events in May. Texas Roadhouse proudly provides gift certificates for student and staff recognition.
Alaska owned and operated, Full Curl Archery is a full service pro shop with a 10 lane, 20 yard indoor range. They Became a School Business Partner with Hanshew Middle School during the 2019-2020 school year. Full Curl Archery also sponsors youth leagues and works with Junior Olympic Archery Development Program. Full Curl Archery has agreed to provide speakers to the SBP class about entrepreneurship and running a retail, service and archery training business in Alaska, as well as training assistance should Hanshew obtain an archery program in the future.
What began as an espresso cart on Anchorage’s 4th Avenue in the spring of 1986, is now Alaska’s premier coffee roaster. Kaladi Brothers Coffee is made in Alaska, by Alaskans. Kaladi supports Hanshew Middle School by providing hot beverages at student achievement and other recognition events. Coffee is made in Alaska, by Alaskans.

Lowes South Anchorage has been one of Hanshew’s business partners since 2013. Volunteers from Lowes have come in to help students with mock job interviews. Lowes has also sent two speakers to help students learn about how to prepare for getting a job and what kinds of questions they should ask during a job interview. In 2015 Lowes gave Hanshew a discounted price on a washer and dryer set and also installed it for free. To try to give back, Hanshew students send holiday cards and create thank you posters. Also, Hanshew students created a big Lowes poster that hangs Hanshew’s front foyer.

Menchie’s has been one of Hanshew’s business partners since 2013. Menchie’s has come in and given class presentations on employability skills and how to be an entrepreneur, as well as helped students with mock job interviews. Menchie’s has given gift certificates, small cups of frozen yogurt and Menchie’s shirts to students at Hanshew. The Menchie’s mascot came to a school assembly that featured the Hanshew volleyball team and tossed Menchie’s shirts and gift certificates into the crowd. They also gave frozen yogurt certificates to the volleyball players. To try to give back, Hanshew has hung a student- created Menchie’s sign in the front foyer. Students have invited Menchie’s to music concerts and sent holiday cards.
Align & Thrive Chiropractic became a school business partner with Hanshew Middle School in September, 2025, but they have supported our school for several years. Align & Thrive is dedicated to providing high-quality chiropractic and wellness care and education to the community. They are dedicated to supporting students with information about career paths and job skills as guest speakers.
Gilbert and Sandra Ramos from Jalapenos Mexican Restaurant offers authentic and traditional Mexican food to Anchorage through their locations in South Anchorage and Eagle River. They strive to bring the best their culture has to offer. They generously donated food to help Hanshew staff celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
AT&T Abbott Road became a school business partner with Hanshew Middle School in October of 2026. They offer educator discounts and comprehensive cellular phone service. They also support students by being willing to be guest speakers and volunteers at Hanshew.
Sport Clips Haircuts of South Anchorage has been a school business partner with Hanshew Middle School Since October 2026. They are dedicated to giving patrons an MVP experience every time they walk through the door. They have donated haircut coupons to Hanshew staff.
