Message from your Principal:
Dear Hanshew Families,
February is finally here and we are ready for a fun and exciting month of learning at Hanshew! We had so many wonderful accomplishments at Hanshew to celebrate from the 1st semester and we are incredibly proud of our students and staff! During the 2nd quarter, we had over 340 students who earned the honor roll with a 3.0 gpa or better and 87 of those students earned an impressive 4.0 gpa. Our students made huge growth on the MAP Growth test from the Fall to the Winter. We had several students to earn bronze and silver medals and an astounding 385 students to earn a gold medal in the MAP Olympics! The gold medalists doubled their expected growth on the MAP Growth test. We were fortunate to celebrate all of the honor roll and MAP Olympics medalists in January with the help of our PTA!
Please continue to check your student's academic progress in canvas and Q. Afterschool tutoring will begin on January 13, 2026 and be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the library from 4:15-5:15pm. The writing lab is open on Wednesdays and Fridays in the library from 4:15-5:15pm.
February is Black History Month and we will be celebrating the many accomplishments of Black Americans. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to be a guest speaker or have anything to contribute to this celebration.
February 13th is our Valentine's Dance at Hanshew from 4:15-5:45pm in the MPR. Please let us know if you want to volunteer. February 16th is President's Day and there is no school. February 27th is an In-Service Day and no school for students. We also do not have parent teacher conferences in February for secondary schools, so please contact your student's team for a meeting or questions/concerns.
Transitions are beginning for 5th graders coming to Hanshew and our 8th graders going to high school at the end of this month and February. Please keep a lookout for flyers and information about these events. Please keep the following dates: Feb. 4: Future Freshman Night at Service High School, Feb. 11: Family Fun Night from 6:00-7:30pm for Incoming Hanshew 5th graders, and March 3-4: Service HS Tours for 8th graders at Hanshew.
As always, thank you for your support, patience, and understanding this school year! Thank you for also entrusting us with the education and care of your students, we appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lakhita Hodge
Hanshew Middle School Principal
