Message from your Principal:
Dear Hanshew Families,
Thank you for all of your help this school year. We appreciate you partnering with us to ensure that all students are sucessful at Hanshew. Hopefully you received my email about all of the wonderful 1st quarter celebrations; these accomplishments are possible because of your unwavering support! We are forging ahead with another great quarter and will be celebrating our students at the end of this month through our PBIS team.
As the 2nd quarter comes to an end on December 19th, please encourage your student to continue tracking their assignments and grades in canvas and Q. If they need support, afterschool tutoring is on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the library from 4:15-5:15pm and the writing lab is open on Wednesdays and Fridays in the library from 4:15-5:15pm. Teachers will submit grades for the 2nd quarter on January 5, 2026 and they wil be viewable to you on January 6, 2026!
December is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Awareness month. Encourage your pre-teen/teen to get more exercise, expose themselves to daylight when available or (light therapy box), get more sleep, eat a balanced diet, and take time to connect with family and friends.
There are several upcoming sports, activities, and reminders, so please check the Hanshew website calendar to keep abreast of upcoming events! Wrestling, Cross Country Skiing, and Girls Basketball starts the first week of January 2026. Please turn in all paperwork to office 5 to be eligible by the first day of practice.
As always, thank you for your support, patience, and understanding this school year! Thank you for also entrusting us with the education and care of your students, we appreciate you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lakhita Hodge
Hanshew Middle School Principal
AP UPDATES-
SOARING into December! A few reminders:
Winter Sports Start Soon! All paperwork — including the Activity Participation Form, Sports Fee, and Health Examination Form — is due in the front office by Monday, January 5th, the first day back from winter break. Start Dates:
Coed Wrestling: Tuesday, January 6
Girls Basketball: Wednesday, January 7
Cross Country Skiing: Thursday, January 8
We want all of our Hawks to be safe so we advise student to wear appropriate winter gear to school including footwear. We will still conduct drills that may have students outside in the weather for 10-15 minutes, please dress accordingly.
As temperatures drop students are wearing heavier coats, these must be put in the students locker before school. Light jackets, hoodies and sweatshirts are permitted but heavier coats are a safety concern.
