PRACTICES: Take place every school day.
Archery is a sport for everyone. Students of almost every size and physical condition can be successful at archery. The Mears archery program follows the model of the National Archery in the Schools program. The National Archery in the Schools program, NASP, is a collaboration between the state department of education, fish and wildlife agency, archery organizations, and equipment manufacturers. The program is administered by NASP, Inc. a non-profit organization. NASP Inc., Alaska Fish and Game and the other collaborators have provided Mears with our original twelve Genesis compound bows, arrows, 6 targets, and an arrow curtain. To further expand the archery program at Mears the school now has 8 targets, two arrow curtains, and 16 Genesis compound bows.
Personal Equipment: Students should come to practice prepared to participate. They should be wearing comfortable clothing and shoes. Every practice starts with stretching and strength exercises. Students may NOT bring their own bows or arrows to Mears. Students may bring their own arm and finger guards.
We look forward to helping students discover an activity that they can enjoy as life-long participants!
