Get to know Ms. Monica...
Born and raised in Anchorage, I graduated from Dimond High and continued on to University of Nevada, Reno for college. I grew up with a love of downhill ski racing that continued throughout college. This will be my 24th year teaching with Anchorage School District. The first 21 years I was in a classroom teacher, ranging in grades from 1st-6th. Before moving into the world of Special Education, I spent 13 amazing years teaching 6th grade right here at Aquarian Charter!
I married my husband, Jonathan, in 2003. Our daughter, Chloe was born on St. Patrick’s Day 2006. On September 9th, 2009 our son Owen joined the family. Our summers are filled with baseball, while also getting out of town as often as we can for camping and fishing adventures. Our winters are spent on the mountains in Girdwood downhill skiing and playing hockey on our neighborhood lake. I love living in Alaska and I feel fortunate to be able to raise my kids in such a magical place.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine and being able to work at Aquarian is truly a dream come true!
Get to know Ms. Storme...
I moved to Alaska in 2005 from New Mexico, where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dual Special Education/General Education from the University of New Mexico. For the past 20 years, I have been a special education teacher within the Anchorage School District. Currently, I am in my 18th year at Aquarian Charter School. It is a true honor to consider Aquarian my home and work alongside such a phenomenal team of educators.
In my personal life, my husband Dan and I are proud parents to three wonderful children: Parker (22 years old), Wyatt (16 years old), Ellie (14 years old), and our sweet dog, Gracie. Our family shares a passion for outdoor activities such as rafting, fishing, hiking, camping, and traveling. We especially enjoy our time at our cabin in Talkeetna. Additionally, cheering on the Colorado Avalanche and spending time with family are activities we cherish and look forward to.
Aquarian Charter School's ASD approved charter (dated 2022)
"Special education services are delivered by using the inclusionary model of instruction. When a
special education eligible student is selected through the lottery process, the Individualized
Education Program (IEP) team reviews needs and services and determines if the student's
needs can be met within the school setting. Because differentiated instruction is being
delivered to all students, the academic needs of both gifted and special education eligible
students can be met within the classroom setting with the support of both special education
and gifted inclusion specialists. All core curriculum areas will be leveled to meet individual
needs and adapted regularly to appropriately challenge all students.
Aquarian employs at least one certified special education teacher as our inclusion specialist
depending on need. The inclusion specialist conducts IEP meetings, teacher training, and helps
ensure that a student’s individual needs are being met within the classroom setting. A student
does not necessarily need a special education determination in order to receive the necessary
remediation or in class services. Aquarian complies with the local, state, and federal statutes
regarding special education students."
