In math 7, we will begin the month completing the lessons on percent change and error, and solving word problems that mimic real world math skills the students will need to use. In the second half of we will be working on the surface area of three-dimensional figures. In the advanced math class, students will be learning to calculate and graph problems involving slope and interpreting the relational data. Class notes and assignments can be found in Canvas if your child misses classes due to illness or travel.

Ms. Harper’s Science Classes: During March the Biology class dissected a worm and then went on to begin studying animals with backbones, vertebrates. As we go into April, we will finish studying Fish and go on to study amphibians. This will lead us to dissect the frog. April will see us researching birds as well. We should also be able to start researching animals of Alaska during April.
The 6th grade Integrated Science classes have been studying renewable and nonrenewable resources, including doing multiple labs and activities. During April they will begin studying and researching renewable energy resources, energy conservation, and thermal insulators and conductors. Amy Darrell, our student teacher, has been working with the 6th grade, and the students are real happy with her being here.
Ms. Labadan, ELA 6: The LA 6 students eagerly embraced the start of Quarter 4 with enthusiasm. In the first week, they were introduced to writing short poetry, particularly limericks, and thoroughly enjoyed the creative activities. They began by learning the structure of limericks, delving into rhyme schemes, and, most exciting of all, exploring the art of rhyme. With great pride, they crafted their own limericks and enhanced their presentations with artistic elements.
In the weeks ahead, they will further immerse themselves in poetry by reading and performing both their chosen and original pieces.
Kudos to this talented and promising group of future poets
Mr. Dekert, PE: Dear Hanshew families, we've kicked off the beginning of the 4th quarter with our “March Madness” basketball unit where played 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5 tournaments during each class period. We are looking forward to going outside when the track area is all cleaned up and ready for use. We have been planning to do outside activities like flag football, softball, baseball, and track and field events. We are still seeing a lot of students who haven't been wearing their mandatory Hanshew PE shirts and correct shoes (still seeing lots of sandals, crocs, and slippers) during PE. If you have a student who has a grade going down, that is likely the case. Please remind your students that is a large part of their grade. They have had multiple chances to get this taken care of. We hope that you are like the PE department and looking forward to the sunshine and summer that is to come right around the corner. Please feel free to reach out to the PE staff if you have any questions.

· Present their brochure to the class, showcasing what they have learned about the Caribbean region.

Art Survey: 7th & 8th Grade (Thompson) -
Art Survey I students clay cups are going through the magical metamorphosis of ceramics, and students will soon have fully glazed pieces to bring home. Just like they are changing from kids to young adults, the change from squishy clay to glossy colored cup is full of learning opportunities. I am proud to see students try new things and persevere through challenges.
Art Survey II/III artists are creating unique ceramic bowls that will help raise funds for our amazing Fine Art Department on May 2. It’s been great to see students sharing art knowledge.
Art Survey I: 6th Grade (Linquist) -
Youth Art Month ends on April 5th! The 53rd Annual Anchorage School District Art Exhibition will be on display at the Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson (625 C Street), Friday, March 7th through Friday, April 4th. Our students have worked hard to create a piece of art that they can be proud of. If completed their woven and crocheted owls are so stinkin’ cute! These will represent Hanshew and your student by hanging on a large banner at the Museum, titled “Who, Who, Who Are You?”
Come see our excellent student artwork before it comes down.
Congratulations to Maely Mack, Justin Horne, Anna Smirnoff, Houa Vang, Abigail Delacruz, Shylah Maxwell and Thiago Elias. Their artwork was chosen to represent Hanshew for Youth Art Month at the Museum.
Congratulations to Ralli Dinnis and Chrissy Perez, whose artwork was chosen to represent Hanshew for Youth Art Month at the Loussac Library.
Congratulations to Milo Gross, whose artwork was chosen to represent Hanshew for Youth Art Month at the 5th Avenue Mall.
Great job to all of our amazing artists!
