 Frequently Asked Questions

1) Do I need to know how to read music or play an instrument to join?

No! You do not need to know how to read music or have any experience to join. We are here to help you learn!

2) How do I know what group to join?

To find the right group, pick the instrument that interests you the most. Do not pick something just to be with your friend. We want you to find the correct music group for you and help you find something you love! If you cannot pick an instrument, listen to the ensembles and get an idea of which you may prefer. We can help you from there.

3) Is there a cost to join?

There is a small fee to join. When you register for the school year, there will be a $50.00 registration fee for band, orchestra, or choir. If you choose band or orchestra, there may also be a fee for the instrument. If there is every any financial issues with instruments, please reach out to Mr. Manint or Ms. Toika for help.

4) How will the class fit into my schedule?

Performing Arts classes take the place of a WIN ("What I Need") class. For 6th graders, it will take the place of ASE class. For 7th and 8th grade, it will either replace ASE or your exploratory rotation. This depends on other WIN classes you may be taking.

5) How do I get an instrument?

We recommend renting your instrument! This makes it easy in case you wanted to change instruments, in case you need a new size, and in case there is any damage to your instrument. For information, please reach out to Mr. Manint or Ms. Toika! However, do not let cost deter you from learning an instrument! Just communicate with us and we will help!

6) What if I have more questions?
