Diane Morrill, orchestra director for Addison School District 4, passed away on March 25, 2020, after a long battle with breast cancer. She spent over 25 years teaching 5th-8th grade strings students in Addison, becoming a cornerstone of the district’s music program. Diane was known for her unwavering dedication and for forming meaningful, long-term connections with her students and their families. Many families had multiple children in her orchestra program, and Diane's influence spanned across generations.
Her students, whether they stayed for a year or pursued careers in music, felt the impact of her teaching. Diane wasn’t just an orchestra director—she was a mentor and a guide who cared deeply about the growth of her students, both musically and personally. Her approach to teaching was about more than just music; it was about building confidence, instilling passion, and creating a supportive, positive environment where students felt encouraged and valued.
To honor Diane’s memory, her family has established the Diane Morrill Scholarship Fund. This fund will support ASD4 students and give them the opportunity to experience the same love for music and dedication that Diane gave throughout her career.
Proceeds raised at the ASD4 Fine Arts Festival will benefit the Diane Morrill Scholarship Fund, ensuring that Diane’s legacy continues to impact future students.
