Policies and Procedures

Hours of Operation: The Belton Middle School Library Media Center is open from 7:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Special hours may be arranged in advance in person, by phone, or by e-mail. Students visit the library every other week with their ELA classes for mini-lessons, book browsing, and book check out. They may also visit the library throughout the day as allowed by their other teachers. Students must sign in and out when they visit without their teacher.

LMC Staff: The Belton Middle School LMC employs a full-time certified Librarian (Media Specialist) and a full-time assistant.

Behavior Policy: The LMC behavior policy is based on Belton Middle School’s school-wide expectations for student behavior. LMC expectations are as follows:

1. RESPECT the library facility, library staff, other students visiting the library and yourself.

2. Be RESPONSIBLE for yourself, your actions, your materials, and your education.

3. Be a good library CITIZEN by being productive and cooperative.

4. Be HONEST and display CHARACTER in your interactions with others and in your assignments.

***In addition, all school rules apply in regards to proper behavior.

Circulation

  • Students are allowed to have 2 books checked out at any given time. They may keep the books for up to two weeks. The maximum number of books checked out may be increased as the year progresses.

  • Students may renew their books.

  • Overdue slips will be given to students monthly.

Payment for Lost and Damaged Books: If an item is lost or damaged, a bill for payment of the item will be sent to the student. If the book is found in good condition before the end of the current school year, payment will be refunded. If the book is damaged, the patron must pay the total replacement cost of the item. Unpaid fines are carried over into subsequent school years.
