WARRIOR STYLE

2021 - 2022

The following are the policies and procedures for Physical Education at Belton Middle School.


PARTICIPATION

  • All students are required and expected to participate in physical education.

  • If a student does not participate, he/she must have a written excuse from a parent on the day he/she does not participate in physical education.

  • If a student is unable to participate for an extended time period, he/she must have a doctor's excuse.

  • On a day that a student is not able to participate, he/she will be required to complete an alternative writing assignment.


DRESSING OUT

  • All students are required to dress out for activities.

  • Dressing out for class helps to promote safety, comfort, and personal hygiene.

  • Students are REQUIRED to wear crew neck T-shirt, and/or athletic shorts, yoga style shorts, leggings, or sweatpants.

  • If you choose to wear yoga style shorts, pants, or leggings you MUST also wear athletic shorts over them.

  • Regular tennis shoes are also REQUIRED. The laces MUST be tied on the top of the shoe.

  • NO Sperry’s or Sperry type shoes, boots, sandals, flip flops, and shoes with no laces or backs can be worn. These types of shoes are NOT appropriate nor do they provide adequate support for ankles or feet.

  • Students cannot wear shorts with writing across the seat per school-wide dress code.

  • Appropriate shorts for physical education in accordance with school policy.

  • Jewelry should not be worn in physical education class for safety reasons.

  • NO aerosol or spray cologne, perfume, hair spray, body spray or deodorant. Students may use roll-on or solid deodorant.


  • Consequences for not dressing out will be as follows:

1st offense - verbal warning

2nd offense - student will lose 5 points off his/her participation grade

3rd offense - student will lose 10 points off his/her participation grade

and a parent will be contacted

4th or more - student will lose 10 points and receive a lunch detention

ENTERING AND LEAVING THE GYM AND LOCKER ROOM

  • Students will enter the gym and line up at the designated area outside of each respective locker room.

  • Once the tardy bell rings, students will be escorted into the appropriate locker room.

  • Students will have approximately 5 minutes to dress out.

  • All students will exit out of the locker room at the same time as directed by the teacher.

  • Students WILL NOT be allowed back into the locker room until the end of class unless there is an emergency situation or early dismissal from school.

  • The same procedure used at the beginning of class will be used for dressing at the end of class.

  • CELL PHONES ARE NOT TO BE OUT OR USED in the locker room at any time for any reason. If reported that a student has cell phone out or in use, student will be taken to the office.

  • NO HORSEPLAY IS ALLOWED IN THE LOCKER ROOM!!! Consequence for horseplay is a white slip or office referral.

  • During class, students who need to use the restroom will use those in the front hallway.


EVALUATION


•30% Cognitive: Written quizzes, cues quizzes, written

assignments, and unit tests


•40% Participation: Active participation, dressing out, working on

task, and displaying positive sportsmanship


•30% Skill Development: Skills tests, teacher checklists, and peer

evaluations


BEHAVIOR CONSEQUENCES:

Please refer to your Student Handbook as to behavioral consequence(s).


SHOWERS

Belton Middle School has shower facilities, but students are not allowed in the shower area for any reason.


EQUIPMENT

The physical education department is proud of the amount and types of different equipment that has been purchased. Students are expected to take proper care of all equipment. STUDENTS ARE ASKED NOT TO TOUCH OR HANDLE EQUIPMENT LYING OUT UNLESS NOTIFIED BY THE TEACHER. The teacher might have student helpers during class that are responsible for taking out or bring in the equipment.


Physical Education should be fun and students should feel comfortable performing activities. Remember to display good sportsmanship at all times. We look forward to you having a WONDERFUL physical education experience!!!
