About the Teacher

Lauren Owens' Biography:

About the Teacher

I was raised in Long Island, New York. At age 7 I took up playing the piano. I had a very undeveloped voice and wasn't confident in the way I sang, so it took me until high school to join my first choir. My high school had a great choral program that helped me grow as a leader and musician. By age 16 I knew I wanted to teach choir because I loved the experience of singing with others. I went to Rutgers University for music education from 2008-2012, singing in 4 choirs throughout (that's a lot of rehearsals!), and graduated magna cum laude. After graduation I taught elementary music for 4 years in both rural and urban New Jersey, before getting an itch to move South. I earned my masters degree in Music Education through Boston University and taught at two high schools in Chesterfield County for one year. I moved across the state and settled in Abbeville County. I am excited to continue my 12th year of teaching, and my SEVENTH year as part of ASD2! I am also the Director of the Anderson Children's Choir (grades 3-5)!
Jesus is my first love, family next, and my work and ministry after that - I truly love what I do and thank God that he gave me the skills and opportunity to do it! My hobbies include watercolor painting and reading.
