The Institute of Environmental Governance (IEG) at Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) plays a crucial role in strengthening environmental management and governance in the region. Established in collaboration with Tanggol Kalikasan, the IEG aims to build the capacities of local government units (LGUs) through structured training programs. The institute offers a two-level training curriculum: Level One, designed for barangay officials, and Level Two, tailored for municipal, city, and provincial officials. These programs are hosted in partner academic institutions and have received a four-star accreditation from the Local Government Training and Research Institutes-Philippine Network (LoGoTRI-PhilNet).
In May 2024, ASCOT’s IEG, in partnership with Tanggol Kalikasan and other institutions, conducted an Environmental Governance Training seminar for LGU department heads from Aurora and Quezon provinces. The seminar covered essential topics such as basic concepts of ecology, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (CCA-DRR), and basic environmental law enforcement skills and procedures. ASCOT personnel played a key role in delivering presentations and facilitating discussions during the training.
The IEG at ASCOT is coordinated by For. RB J. Gallego, PhD, a faculty member from the School of Forestry and Environmental Sciences. Through its initiatives, the institute continues to contribute to the advancement of environmental governance and sustainable development in the province.
Its mission is to facilitate the empowerment of communities and institutions to manage their ecosystem through law and other creative mechanisms.
