Mrs. Mitchell
English I and III – Syllabus
2025 – 2026
Welcome to my class. I have been a teacher for 16 years, and I am starting my third year with ASJH/HS. I am looking forward to continuing my work with students and returning to my roots, teaching High School English. Our goal this year is to “Learn as We Grow”. I am excited to “grow” with all of you!
As you are all aware, no personal electronic devices will be allowed during the school day. This is a Texas state law, and it will be enforced.
Supplies to purchase by August 24, 2025:
1 – 1 subject notebook
1 – 1” binder
Pencils/Pens (You may use colored ink pens except for neon colors. They are difficult to see on white paper, and if I can’t read it, I will give it back to be rewritten.)
1 – five pack of highlighters
Ear buds or earphones that can be plugged into your laptop, no wireless devices will be allowed.
Course Description
Throughout the year, we will be focusing on different genres of literature, the writing process, grammar, and writing.
Materials
Our primary source of curriculum will be StudySync Texas, vol. 1 and 2- Both of these have workbooks that the district provides for the students. I will also use other sources of materials to supplement the curriculum. Students will need to bring their school-issued laptop to class every day. Students are not allowed to use their personal laptops unless it is a school-approved accommodation. We will continue to use Google Classroom, and we will use a traditional pen-and-paper method.
Class Expectations
Be on time and be prepared!
Be respectful of others and myself.
Do your very best.
Ask for help when you need it.
Grading Policy
Students should be proactive in completing assignments. You need to ask questions if you do not understand what is being asked of you. I will put a zero in Gradebook until the assignment is turned in to me. Minor Grades are worth 40% of your 9-week grade, and Major Grades are worth 60% of your 9-week grade.
Copying/cheating, the use of AI is included in this statement, on any work will result in a zero. This is considered plagiarism and will not be tolerated.
Make-up Work for Absences/Late Work
Students are responsible for asking for and taking care of getting work if they are late or absent from class. Please refer to the student handbook on the district policies for grading or time allotments for turning this work in to me.
Availability for student help is from 7:35 am or at 3:35 pm, unless I have an assigned duty!
Contact information - My conference time is 12:18 pm to 1:05 pm. I prefer to be reached by e-mail because I can respond at any time. My e-mail is tmitchell@ascisd.net
About me
We moved here from New Mexico. I have been teaching English Language Arts, in the secondary, for 14 years. I am excited to be a member of the Anderson Owl family and I am so excited to be a part of your child's life!
I love to read and cook in my spare time. I love collecting unusual cookbooks and I love to watch cooking shows, lol!
I also love history. I particularly love Southwest and Texas history. My family finds it incredibly annoying.
