Greetings Third Grade Families!

Meet your teacher

Mrs. Spriggs | Grade 3 | Ascent Classical Academy Douglas County

Greetings Guardian Families!

My name is Mrs. Cheryl Spriggs, and I am honored to partner with you in your child’s education this year.

I was primarily raised in Colorado and attended Douglas County Schools. I grew up hiking, cycling and playing in the Colorado sunshine. I currently live in Denver with my family. My youngest child attends Ascent. On the weekends, we love to spend time in the mountains; in the summer we mountain bike frequently and in the winter we love snowboarding & skiing. I also enjoy reading, photography and yoga in my spare time. We value family time and family dinners.

I am delighted to be a part of this school and community. I appreciate the rigor and depth offered in our curriculum. This is my second year teaching third grade at Ascent. Prior to coming here, I worked in Denver Public Schools and then at a small private school. I have a degree in Human Performance and Sport and a degree in Human Nutrition. I went on to graduate school to study Elementary Education. My experience outside of education includes working in Cardiac Rehabilitation at Saint Joseph Hospital and many years of teaching dance and yoga. I believe these other experiences bring a depth to my skills as a teacher.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year with your children!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Spriggs

Educational Philosophy

I cannot think of a better way to use my skills and experience than teaching. Sharing knowledge, beauty and truth with my students offers purpose and meaning to my life.

Every student in my classroom is important and I value their contributions. I work hard to connect with each student in a meaningful way. I will spend the beginning of the year establishing a safe environment and developing trust with my students. Once this is established, my hope is that the students feel confident in expressing themselves, asking questions and engaging in the classroom.

What i'm looking forward to

Third grade is a year of tremendous growth. I look forward to supporting your child through the learning process. We will work hard!

favorite things and fun facts:

I love to travel! In 2012 I cycled across Italy (coast to coast). I covered 400 miles in 10 days, ate tons of pasta and completed the trip with a tour of the Colosseum! In 2019 I spent 21 days exploring northern India. I participated in many cultural activities, learned chants and spent a night in an ashram. One of my favorite places to explore was Costa Rica where I saw wildlife such as sloths, frogs, howler monkeys and lots of lizards! I also enjoyed the mild surfing...which is much different than the surfing I experienced on the north shore of Maui.

I am vegetarian; I love salads and vegetables! I enjoy walking around the city park by my house, especially at sunset. I enjoy challenging myself with new activities. I love learning and spent several years studying to receive an advanced certificate as a yoga teacher (which I taught for 15 years).

Target is a hop and a skip away, so I go frequently for movie night snacks. On the weekends I might treat myself to a walk to Logan Coffee House or Starbucks. On a busy weeknight I occasionally go to Chipotle, Torchy's Tacos or Mod Pizza. These are some of the perks of living in an urban area (although at times I long for wide open spaces). I enjoy physical books and sometimes use Audible to listen to books while I drive.

MEET YOUR TEACHER'S ASSISTANT

Kayla Anderson | Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County

Hello everyone! My name is Kayla Anderson and I will be the Apprentice Teacher helping Mrs. Spriggs in her classroom this year. I'm new to Ascent and to teaching, having graduated from the University of Colorado Denver this past May. I am very excited to be involved in a classroom, especially at a school that values education and the student.

My degree is in English and Literary Studies, and I have always loved reading and writing. Some of my favorite books are ones that I first read when I was in grade school, like The Secret Garden and The Little Princess.

I can't wait to meet and work with you all!
