Week of August 29

Hello parents!

Welcome to a new school year and to the sixth grade! My name is Mrs. Mercier, and I am honored to be serving you child this year.

Each week, I will be posting a newsletter on this page of the website. Its main function will be to explain concepts we are learning in particular classes and list important upcoming dates.

For example, this week, your student will be assigned a brown bag autobiography. In this assignment, your child will be given a brown paper bag that he or she must fill with items that explain who they are. A sheet will be provided for them to fill out that explain the contents of their bags. These will be presented throughout the week.

Other items that we will cover this week include classroom procedures, how to locate assignments, how to utilize a planner, and explanation of the rubric for the end of the semester project in science class.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me at kmercier@ascentclassical.org

Cheers to a new school year! Go Guardians!

Week of September 6

Good morning, families!

We had a wonderful first week in our sixth grade classroom! As a class, we collaborated on how we would like our classroom to run and operate in order for it to be a healthy, thriving enviornment. As individuals, students created a "6th grade time capsule." In this activity, students answered three questions on sheets of paper describing how they want to grow, what they want to accomplish and what kind of person they'd like to be known for this year. They placed their answers in individual jars (the time capsule) and we proudly placed these jars in the back of the room above the cubbies. At the end of the school year, students will open them and discover if their goals were met.

Thank you for all you do to make this a wonderful place to learn and grow!
