Greetings!
Mrs. Guyor | History | Dean of Faculty

ABOUT ME
I was raised in the Mid-West and moved to Colorado in 2005. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University with a dual major in Political Science and French. I also studied at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in France and earned a Diplome d’Etudes Politiques. Teaching in a variety of settings, I have been immersed in education for over twenty years.
I have been married 34 years to my husband Rob and have three wonderful children.
Fitness is an important part of my daily life. And when extra time allows, I love to work on fiber & textile arts like weaving, spinning, knitting, and quilting. I've recently picked up my sketch pad after decades... I am committed to life-long learning and always have at least three books and an online class in progress. I'm NOT a good housekeeper.
EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY
My philosophy of education is simple: hospitality. My goal is to spread a banquet and invite hungry learners to feast! I love the integration that happens in the classical framework. The chronological approach to teaching history and incorporating relevant literature, music, science, and philosophy makes learning feel coherent and intentional. Simple tools like Aristotle’s Topics allow every student to make connections and discoveries that inspire them to learn more. Healthy habits infused with virtue form the muscles a student needs to move from passive curiosity into active life-long learning.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO
Our culture underestimates our students' capacity to learn timeless truths and appreciate goodness and beauty. My hope is to place before students things that are excellent and virtuous and equip them with the tools they need to read with comprehension, write with precision, and think with discernment.
GET TO KNOW ME
I don't have a favorite book. While I enjoy classics like A Tale of Two Cities, Frankenstein, War & Peace and My Antonia, I gravitate more toward non-fiction biographies and works in philosophy, economics, and history.
I could never choose just one subject. History, Literature, and Rhetoric are a delight to share with students. I also have a new-found love for Algebra that surprises even me!
It is a great privilege to participate in the mission of Ascent: to train the minds and improve the hearts of young people through a classical, content-rich education ...with instruction in the principles of moral character and civic virtue.
My favorite game is volleyball! I enjoy jigsaw puzzles, card games, and trivia.
