Math: In Module 6, students will solve addition and subtraction word problems using objects, drawings, and visual models. They will practice finding missing numbers, combining and separating groups, and finding totals. Students will also write equations to match word problems and use different strategies to solve them.

Skills: In Unit 3, we will learn new vowel sounds and spelling patterns, including the different sounds made by “oo.” Students will practice reading and spelling new words, learn the tricky words should, would, could, down, and because, and read fables that teach important lessons. We will also focus on identifying verbs in the past and present tense and begin practicing narrative writing by retelling stories and sharing opinions about books.

Knowledge: In this unit, students will travel back in time to explore Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt, learning how early civilizations developed through farming, cities, government, writing, and religion. Students will discover the importance of the Tigris, Euphrates, and Nile Rivers, explore cuneiform and hieroglyphics, and learn about Babylon, the pyramids, the Sphinx, and ancient Egyptian pharaohs. They will also practice informational writing by recording facts, comparing civilizations, and creating timelines. Toward the end of the unit, students will be introduced to the historical and cultural backgrounds of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
