THE ASBDA COLORADO CHAPTER 2026 YOUNG COMPOSERS CONCERT BAND COMPOSITION CONTEST
Who May Enter: Any student currently enrolled in Colorado Public or Private school. Grades 5-12. This student must be enrolled in the school's Band program.
Requirements: A work for concert band with no restrictions as to style or form. Compositions must be for GRADE I-IV CONCERT BAND and must not exceed 7 minutes in length.
Entry Materials: Full score and audio file of specified instrumentation.
Award: $150 cash award
Entry Deadline: Submitted by April 17, 2026 (11:59PM)
CONTEST INFORMATION
1. This contest is open to any Colorado student currently enrolled in Grades 5-12.
2. The composer’s name MAY NOT appear on the score or audio file. Any entry received with the composer’s name on the score or audio file will not be accepted for evaluation. The score and audio file should be identified by title only.
3. Entries must be the original and unpublished concert band work of the composer.
4. There are no restrictions as to style or form. Compositions must be for Grade I-IV Concert Band and must not exceed 7 minutes in length.
5. Only one entry may be submitted.
6. Entries must be submitted with a full score (pdf) and audio recording (mp3) of good quality by the specific instrumentation indicated in the score. Synthesizer recordings are acceptable but not encouraged.
7. Entries must be submitted by April 17, 2026 (11:59PM).
8. The decision of the contest committee will be final and no correspondence may be made regarding the award. Should the committee consider none of the submitted compositions to be meritorious, a “no prize” decision will be rendered.
9. The winning composer will receive a $150 cash award.
10. Composers will be notified of the judges’ decision no later than May 15, 2026.
