In accordance with Arizona Revised Statute §15-182(E)(1), the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools (“Board”) shall exercise general supervision over charter schools sponsored by the Board. Pursuant to A.A.C. R7-5-606, the Charter Holder is subject to additional oversight.
In FY 2026, the Charter Holder will undergo a Specialized Accountability Site Visit, which is based on the following areas:
A review of Academic, Operational, and Financial Performance;
An Academic Systems Review;
A Site Visit and compliance review.
The purpose of the Specialized Accountability Site Visit is to confirm that the charter holder meets the performance expectations as set forth in the Board’s Performance Frameworks and is in compliance with the provisions of its charter, contractual agreements with the Board, and federal and state laws.
The Charter Holder receives a Specialized Accountability Review Notification following the issuance of school Letter Grades by the Arizona State Board of Education.
The Notification details submission requirements, timelines, and instructions for how to submit the required documentation.
A Review of the charter holder's academic systems documentation and compliance submissions will take place virtually. Board staff will provide the charter holder with a minimum of two weeks notice for the window in which the virtual document review will take place.
The charter holder will submit required documentation for the academic systems review by the deadline provided in the notification.
During a Site Visit, Board staff will tour the campus, observe instruction in classrooms to confirm alignment with the program of instruction, and review a small number of compliance documents (primarily related to student safety). These visits will be unscheduled and focused in nature.
On the date of the Site Visit, Board staff will meet with the charter holder/school leadership to review the submitted academic systems information, review onsite compliance, discuss findings, and provide the charter holder a list of missing documents/information.
Compliance Report
Following the Site Visit, Board staff will generate a report identifying any non-compliance issues. This report will be issued within ten business days, and will include information about follow-up that is required to correct the issues of non-compliance.
Follow-Up
The charter holder will have until the deadline in the report (typically 30 calendar days) to bring issues into compliance.
Final Report
The Final Report will identify whether non-compliance issues were brought into compliance, summarize contractual information, and leadership discussions, and will indicate whether academic documents meet the criteria set by the Board.
