ASB Sports Program

The ASB Athletics program is committed to providing our students with a high quality athletic experience. The program consists of competitive and recreational sports offered throughout the year across all divisions and in line with local sports organisations, other international schools in Barcelona (BISA), IBERIAN and the European Sports Conference (ESC) international sports leagues. At ASB the action does not stop when school is out. Afternoons and Saturdays are packed with sports and activities for students to participate in. We encourage you to browse the rest of the Athletics section of our site to find out more about the exciting athletics programs at ASB.

Our Program

At ASB we strongly encourage all students to engage themselves in athletics and further develop life-long skills emphasizing:

  • Participation
  • Commitment
  • Self-discipline
  • Effort
  • Teamwork
  • Sportsmanship

Our youngest students begin exploring their individual abilities and interests in a non-competitive environment in activities such as teddy tennis, swimming, cheerleading and multi sports. As they grow the opportunities to compete increase while maintaining a supportive climate and an emphasis on sportsmanship. Elementary students have the opportunity to join soccer and flag football teams that compete in local leagues and tournaments. Meanwhile, Middle School students have the opportunity to join soccer, volleyball, flag football, cheerleading and basketball teams that compete in local leagues as well as IBERIAN and BISA tournaments.

Training sessions take place on Campus from either 16:00-17:30 or 17:30-19:00, Monday through Friday.

At the High School level, our students have the opportunity to take part in competitions in three different leagues (BISA, IBERIA and ESC) in the following sports. Our teams practice twice a week for the whole year.

  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Cross Country Running
  • Tennis (Spring)

BISA includes tournaments with ASB, Benjamin Franklin International School, SEK Catalunya and British School of Barcelona.

IBERIA includes tournaments with ASB, Benjamin Franklin International School, Carlucci American International School of Lisbon, International Bilingual School of Provence, and American School of Valencia.

ASB is also an active member of the European Sports Conference (ESC). This international school sports organization encourages students to participate in interscholastic athletics, foster good sportsmanship and promote international understanding and friendship.

Tournaments are held for a different sport each season by member schools on a rotating basis. International or American schools from around Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Italy) participate in ESC tournaments. Attending ESC tournaments is very popular with students, as they get to travel to other cities, compete at the international level, and make lifelong friendships with athletes and host families from other schools.
