I wanted to make a low cost bridge. Basically because most countries can't afford doing bridges to connect parts from their country or from other countries.
Like I said, I did this project because most bridges cost a lot of money to make. So this low cost bridge could be a reference to place that need a bridge but don't have a lot of budget.
I did my sketch in an app called Bridge Designer 2016. In my website I have the photos and the process in which I made it.
I choose to make a truss design at the deck supported by a pilar. Of what I found this type of bridges are one of lower cost to make. So because I wanted a lower cost bridge I decided to use this methods.
My results were very good, the final cost was $385,000. I think the conclusion is that after all it wasn't that much, but also it wasn't that low. I researched and saw that for a bridge to be good and to rarely brake it will cost about $300,000.
I think I would've liked the cost to be lower. And I think I can make the cost lower by finding materials that don't need to be the best.
I got the idea from Mr Shelden, I saw him make a bridge similar of what I did and I was inspired by that. So I think I did a really good job with the bridge building part of this school year, and my final design (this one) is the best I made because of the cost.
I am always fascinated by bridges engineering and design. I like the idea that you were able to do research regarding cost. Being able to provide a cost effective project sounds interesting. However, safety must also be a key factor. How safe a low cost project will be is a question that comes to my mind. Thanks for sharing your project!
