I attempted to capture the solitude of a farm while using a fairly new medium called voxels. The farm consists of overgrown weeds, a red basic house, a tree, newly planted wheat, and an idyllic river flowing threw.
I decided to do this project based on the fact that voxels are a very underused medium compared to the normal pixels or even brushes. Voxels stand for volume pixels, and apart from being able to capture everything pixels can, they can also capture space, and shadow. As you will see, there are multiple functions that can be used with the program to create very realistic images.
I created my project using a program called Magicavoxel. This program is free and has a lot of ways that it can be used to create ideal imagery.
I ended up finding the many ways that voxels can be used to create architecture, and even though voxels are cubes, I was able to create seemingly impossible curves.
My results are important because it shows that 2d art is not the only medium of painting out there. And with NFTs rolling around, 3d art should be taken more seriously. The program does have a few downsides however, as it is very difficult to create a human on it.
I could easily list 50 things that I could have improved on my project, but due to time constraints, I had to painfully restrain temptations and turn it in as it is. Even after my submission I will continue to improve my tree, as I believe it is the part where I have put in the least effort, and the pathways need a bit more touching up.
I got most of my ideas browsing through the r/Magicavoxels subreddit and also the r/Voxels Subreddit. Feedback from my classmates/teachers was greatly appreciated, but I was worried of sharing too much due to conflict of interest.
When I look at your design, I was curious to know how voxel works. I think you did a great job recreating the farm. You worked very hard in Magical Voxel to present your project. I like to see more featues added to your project: trees, flowers, boat . Very creative!
