How do I stop forgetting how the solar system looks like? I decided to make a 3D model of the solar system with Tinkercad so I can see the solar system with different angles. The model includes the main parts of the solar system. (Planets, the Sun, and space debris.) After I made this 3D model, I remember all the planets and their order so it was all worth it!
I did this project because in Science class we had to do a diagram to show how the solar system looks like. At first, I used different colored clay to show their location and sizes, but when I was done, I realized the planets couldn't move, so I came up with a solution- to transfer it onto a rotatable and interactive 3d model!
I used Tinkercad to make it. I explored that website to make the my 3D model as good as possible. I used spheres to make the sun, the planets, and the stars. Cubes were used and were made flat to make the dark space and beautiful stars in the background.
When I was done, it was awesome! I could move the planets around and I could easily delete or add something without spending too much time. How it works is if you just right click the mouse and drag it, you can see my 3D model by different angles. Left to right, far to close, and up to down. There are notes, or labels for object descriptions.
This project is special to me because it is important to see and know different angles of our solar system and maybe I can discover more secrets of the universe. I learned that STEAM connects with science, technology, and art, which can combine into good projects!
In the future, I'd probably add more details like asteroids and more natural satellites to make it more interesting. The planets could have been more realistic and have natural surfaces.
https://www.tinkercad.com and my brother supported me because I got inspired when he used tinkercad in art class.
This is a fantastic example of taking a design and improving it through different versions. Your initial design of clay would be interesting to see in comparison with your digital model, specifically what you changed and why the digital version is more functional. When you consider the next version of this design, you should think about interactivity and the ability of the model to move and simulate the solar system.
