The problem is that there are houses that are close to sea level where it floods a lot. I wanted to design and build something that would work in places where the water would enter easily. My solution was that the building will have pillars that will stand it from the ground and a triangle shaped roof so that rain doesn't enter the house.
My question was "what is the best design for houses that are in zones with constant flooding?" One time they had a lot of flooding that water entered all the houses last year here in Paraguay. I want to see more of these houses in Paraguay so the houses will be safer.
I created it with Legos, and I designed it based on a normal house with one floor where you can sleep and do all your activities and the roof as a triangle shape so no water can enter or stay in the roof.
The building did work because the house didn't flood with water. The part of my building that made the house not flood with water was the pillars that sustained the whole structure.
It is important because it shows that houses can be built above water. I learned from my results that not all of them have to be built in the ground. You can buy the houses in any place. I did learn that my roof had to have an inclination so the water didn't enter from the rain and it took two prototypes to figure that out.
I could improve my design by putting a pillar intended to look like a triangle so the building has more integrity and weight support. To extend my project, I can make a hotel with many floors, and that's how I think that the triangle pillar will work.
I used it as a reference to the houses that were on the farm of my friend, where I show their houses elevated from the ground. The houses were elevated because they are getting flooded constantly, so I use those designs from my project.
This project has many real-world applications for people that live in coastal regions or areas that are prone to flooding. I also really like how you tested your house to show how the roof design is useful in keeping water out of the house. Perhaps, to strengthen this idea you could have shown the same experiment but with a house that has a flat roof to further support your ideas. Still, your use of the scientific method in this project is great, the real-world application is wonderful, and it would be nice to see how you continue to expand on these ideas in future experiments. You are truly trying to make the world a better place!
