I made a digital piece of artwork featuring Galileo Galilei and his telescopes. This was done using the app Procreate on an iPad Pro.
I chose to draw Galileo as he made great contributions to science (one of the most well-known being the improvement of the telescope) and should always be remembered in history. The Procreate app has a lot of innovative features, so I wanted to take advantage of them to make something to honor the scientist.
To get the anatomy and poses right, I had to use a 3D model as a reference for the sketch. After that, I continued as I usually do with my artwork by lining the sketch and adding color, and finishing with a background. For the background I chose to paint the vast expanse of space. I also used an image of the Earth to get it proportional.
I'm overall pretty satisfied with the results and I say the drawing turned out nice. After all, art is subjective and opinions can change from person to person. But it serves it's purpose as a piece of artwork that remembers Galileo Galilei.
I can conclude that it's nice to draw something more serious every once in a while. Important people like him should be commemorated in various ways. While researching I learned a lot more about Galileo than I had previously known, and my respect for him grew.
I think this could have been more impressive if I had done it on a large canvas, with paint, to have a physical edition of the artwork. However I am not very skilled at painting, and finding a large canvas would be a bit difficult in the current situation. It would also take a lot more time and space. It would mean I put a lot more effort into it, though.
I used Wikipedia, Biography.com and google images for most of my sources. My mother helped judge the final product.
I liked how your were able to combine art and technology. You clearly had a purpose: to commemorate Galileo and your piece surely does. It would be interesting to see if you could try combining this app with SketchUp and turn Galileo in 3D.
